UK Australia Canada USA

Quick Definition

Computer-delivered IELTS (CD IELTS) delivers the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on a computer while the Speaking section remains a face-to-face examiner interview. Results released in 3–5 days (vs 13 days for paper-based). Scored identically to paper-based IELTS. Same test centre as paper-based — not a home test.

Computer-Delivered IELTS — Full Explanation

Advantages: typing speed advantage (for fast typists in Writing), editable answers in Reading/Listening, faster results, and more test date availability. Disadvantages: unfamiliar typing environment for some, slight hand fatigue if unaccustomed to long typing. Academic and General Training both available on computer. Not the same as IELTS Home Edition (which is a separate at-home product).

Frequently Asked Questions

No — identical test content, scoring, and difficulty. The only difference is the delivery medium. Choose based on whether you type faster than you write by hand.
IELTS UKVI is available in both paper and computer-delivered formats at approved SELT centres — not home edition. Regular CD IELTS (not UKVI) is accepted for university admission but not the UK visa itself.
