What is Canada TRV (Temporary Resident Visa)? Meaning, Full Form & Guide (2026)

Canada

Quick Definition

A Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), also called a Canadian entry visa, is required by Indian citizens to enter Canada. Most Indian students applying for a Study Permit also receive a TRV automatically. Without a valid TRV, you cannot board a flight to Canada even with an approved Study Permit.

Canada TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) — Full Explanation

The TRV is issued alongside the Study Permit for most applicants. It is a single or multiple-entry visa stamp in your passport. After entering Canada, it is the Study Permit (not the TRV) that governs your right to study. TRV must be valid for the initial entry; subsequent re-entries require a valid TRV or eTA.
